Pets at Home Vet Group Case Study

When Director for People, Operations and Partnerships, Fiona Briault joined Pets at Home Vet Group, she was encouraged to learn that 51% of its partners in joint venture veterinary practices across the country were female.

The statistic, however, does not tell the whole story. Today, more than 80% of all veterinary graduates are female. Its commitment to gender diversity saw Pets at Home Vet Group dig deeper to uncover why a disproportionate few are reaching partnership levels within their practices.

It became clear that its challenge, like many organisations, was to reduce the attrition rate and help more women reach senior positions. And so, in 2016, Pets at Home Vet Group commissioned everywoman to deliver a tailored leadership programme focussed on management style analysis, and the skills required to build, develop and lead high-performing teams in both the retail and veterinary pillars of the business.

 

I couldn’t recommend the everywoman programme highly enough. It helped me feel better about the things that I believe hold me back, and look at things in a more positive way.

Delegates going through the programme have describe it as “life-changing”, demonstrating the enormous impact that this type of investment can have on the retention, loyalty, motivation, commitment and productivity of female talent. Informal support networks have sprung up in the programme’s wake, enabling women to support one another through specific challenges, such as delivering bad news to pet owners, and taking responsibility for the motivation of junior teams.
